Bobbin lace lovers would certainly admit that there are plentiful gorgeous bobbin laces, rich in patterns and varieties. Thanks to the skilful hands of Slovakian women, we can admire tape lace, straight multipair lace, cut lace and modern lace. Since the 16^th century, when bobbin lace making was brought to our country through miners’ families from Germany, the Slovakian women have followed this exacting textile art with interest, eager to learn, remodelling it in line with their own needs. So emerged the so-called „peasant“ lace – the lace of our people.

The bobbin lace can be classified in different regional types according to the lace making method, the combination of typical pattern elements and the variety of colours. We distinguish 17 regional bobbin lace groups. In this place, I would like to present you all our regional bobbin laces and explain to you how to distinguish them.
